Karen Bensted
Dr Karen Bensted is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with a special interest in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis management, , liver conditions and bowel cancer screening. Karen is a Staff Specialist at the The Sutherland (Public) Hospital. Karen completed her specialist gastroenterology training at St George Hospital and The Sutherland Hospital and then a fellowship in Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney.
Dr Bensted is currently completing a Masters Degree through the University of New South Wales, in the area of bone health in inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis). She has previously published in the areas of inflammatory bowel disease, and the impact of Telehealth on gastroenterology patients. Dr Bensted is a member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia. Dr Bensted is accredited to perform gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures at The Sutherland Hospital, Kareena Private Hospital and The Ramsay Surgical Centre Miranda.

Patients who don’t have health insurance or a current policy that covers gastrointestinal endoscopy can pay for the procedure themselves. (Medicare will cover some of the doctor's fees.
