Most policies require an “Excess” payment to be made to the Hospital/Facility on the day and prior to the procedure. There is no further “Gap” or out of pocket expense, which usually includes the anaesthetist and any pathology. Payment by the health insurer is made directly and electronically to the treating doctors. An exception is NIB health insurer (and possibly a small number of other minor insurers) where some anaesthetists do not accept their low rebate and will charge an additional fee.
