Colonoscopy and Gastroscopy

These procedures are performed at a Hospital or Day Surgery facility under a light general anaesthetic and require dedicated staff and equipment. The specialists at Gastroenterology Associates Miranda predominantly work at Kareena Private Hospital, Ramsay Surgical Centre Miranda and St George Private Hospital. Most health insurance policies will rebate these procedures, but some “basic” policies do not. If it is intended that you will be using your health insurance, it is important to check directly with the health insurer. Our office can check if your policy is current, but not the details of what it covers.  The main item numbers of 30473 (Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy) and 32222 (colonoscopy) is what needs to be quoted to the health insurer.

Providing that the procedures are “covered” and the policy is beyond the “waiting period” the specialists at Gastroenterology Associates Miranda accept “No Gap”. Most policies require an “Excess” payment to be made to the Hospital/Facility on the day and prior to the procedure. There is no further “Gap” or out of pocket expense, which usually includes the anaesthetist and any pathology. Payment by the health insurer is made directly and electronically to the treating doctors. An exception is NIB health insurer (and possibly a small number of other minor insurers) where some anaesthetists do not accept their low rebate and will charge an additional fee.

FOR PATIENTS

Patients who don’t have health insurance or a current policy that covers gastrointestinal endoscopy can pay for the procedure themselves. (Medicare will cover some of the doctor's fees. Contact the Office on 9525 4222 for details or contact Kareena Private Hospital or Ramsay Surgical Centre Miranda regarding "Self-funded endoscopy")

FOR GP’S
